Biography

Johann Christian Vollerdt

Johann Christian Vollerdt (1708–1769) was a German landscape painter born in Leipzig and active mainly in Dresden. Trained by Johann Alexander Thiele, he specialised in finely painted river landscapes, winter scenes and Italianate views, often in small formats. Inspired by Dutch masters, his works combine careful detail, soft atmosphere and a romantic, decorative sense of place.
