Biography

Abraham Govaerts

Abraham Govaerts (1589–1626) was an Antwerp landscape painter admired for richly detailed wooded scenes. Probably linked to Jan Brueghel I, he specialised in cabinet pictures where dense trees, winding paths and luminous distances frame biblical, mythological or hunting figures, often added by collaborators. His forests combine Flemish precision, decorative colour and strong spatial depth.
