With skilful brushstrokes, a nuanced choice of colours and a keen sense of composition, the French painter succeeded in capturing this view with its bustling activity on the water.
Eugène Chigot
Alongside Henri Le Sidaner, he helped develop the artistic life of Étaples and later became a founder of the Salon d’Automne. Chigot’s work often balances everyday coastal labour with poetic luminosity. Fishing boats, shorelines, village streets and wide horizons appear alive with wind, reflection and season. His landscapes preserve the modern, open-air spirit of French painting while remaining deeply rooted in place, observation and the mutable drama of the northern sea coast itself.
