Oil on panel
Student of J. Al. Thiele, who inspired him to pursue the observation of atmospheric phenomena. Vollerdt's color palette was influenced by the Dutch, especially Jan Griffier, whom he had the opportunity to study in the Electoral Picture Gallery in Dresden. Like his role model Griffier, Vollerdt almost always depicted mountain and river landscapes, often with ruins, in various atmospheric settings: in thunderstorms, under rainbows, in evening, fire, and moonlight, or in winter settings with appropriate staffage of farmers, fishermen, hikers, ice skaters, etc.
