Description: This casket is an example of Vizagapatam work, which refers to the city of Visakhapatnam in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, located on the Bay of Bengal. Furniture makers belonging to the Kamsali caste began combining their skills in inlaid ivory with Western, primarily English, furniture-making techniques in the early 18th century. The products were manufactured primarily for the Western market.
