Description: With the foothills of the Alps in the background, Swiss painter Jean Philippe George-Julliard presents us with a view of Geneva on Lake Geneva in this painting. In the foreground, we see a dirt road winding its way through the green vegetation. The warm light of the Alpine country is captured atmospherically in this landscape painting, and the sweeping view to the distant mountain peaks is rendered in detail.

Jean Philippe George-Julliard
Jean-Philippe George-Julliard (1818–1888) was a Swiss landscape painter associated with Geneva and the Alpine tradition. A pupil of Alexandre Calame, he painted mountain views, lakes, rivers, travellers and rural scenery with precise drawing and atmospheric clarity. His works, often small oils or studies, reflect nineteenth-century Swiss admiration for topography, natural drama and poetic mountain light.
