Description: Micro-Mosaic Snuff Box: St. Peter’s Square
Rome, first quarter of the 19th century
Red jasper, silver-gilt mounts, micro-mosaic
Dimensions: 8 x 4,3 x 2,2 cm
Rectangular box with slightly rounded corners.
The lid is set with a finely executed micro-mosaic depicting a view of St. Peter’s Square and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
The mounts are struck with marks including BZ (partly effaced, crossed keys still discernible), MZ (partly effaced), and “... 37M” within a lozenge-shaped punch.
