Biography

Johann Akerblad

Johan Åkerblad (1728–1799) was a Stockholm master mirror maker whose pieces exemplify Swedish Rococo and early Gustavian taste. His signed giltwood mirrors and girandoles are valued for carved ornament, burnished gilding, crowned “IÅ” stamps, Stockholm hallmarks and theatrical crests with ribbons, laurel, rocailles or medallions, turning functional glass into refined decorative architecture for aristocratic, elegant eighteenth-century Swedish interiors.
