Biography

Emile Othon Friesz

Émile-Othon Friesz (1879–1949) was a French painter associated with Fauvism before turning toward a more classical and structured style. His early works used bold colour, expressive brushwork, and strong compositions, often depicting landscapes, seascapes, and figures. After 1910, he adopted clearer forms, restrained colour, and stronger drawing, bridging Fauvist intensity with a renewed interest in order and tradition.
