Ernst Julius Hähnel

Ernst Julius Hähnel (1811–1891) was a German sculptor and professor at the Dresden Academy, celebrated for public monuments and architectural sculpture. After studies in Dresden and Munich, he travelled to Rome and Florence, absorbing classical ideals. His Beethoven Monument in Bonn and sculptures for major German and Austrian buildings reveal academic clarity, civic grandeur and idealised historical presence.
