Bronze, Marble
France circa 1780 / Louis XVI Period
Cast bronze, chased and gilded, body and plinth in Turquin-blue marble.
A round, slightly concave base rests on a square plinth accentuated by a braided band. The base supports an ovoid vase body adorned with applied bronze decorations. This body is flanked by curved handles decorated with stylized foliage. Three curved candelabra arms emerge from the gently curved neck, each adorned with an artful arrangement of acanthus leaves. These arms terminate in arched, ornamentally decorated drip trays, crowned by fluted cylindrical candle sockets.
