Biography

Jean Philippe George-Julliard

Jean-Philippe George-Julliard (1818–1888) was a Swiss landscape painter associated with Geneva and the Alpine tradition. A pupil of Alexandre Calame, he painted mountain views, lakes, rivers, travellers and rural scenery with precise drawing and atmospheric clarity. His works, often small oils or studies, reflect nineteenth-century Swiss admiration for topography, natural drama and poetic mountain light.
