SWISS GOLD BONBONNIÈRE WITH ENAMEL DECORATION
Geneva, circa 1790
A Circular gold snuff box, the sides and underside of the lid inset with panels of opaque pale-pink enamel within white enamel borders. The lid is painted with a capriccio depicting a couple in a landscape beside a river, with architectural features to the right and a town in the distance. The underside is painted with a seated shepherdess and her admirer in a wooded landscape. The sides are similarly decorated with pastoral scenes, within taille d’épargne borders in blue enamel, embellished with pendant gold foliage and flowerheads.

Jean George Rémond was among the most distinguished makers of gold boxes in Geneva. Originally from Hanau, Rémond came to Geneva in the 1770s, where he was received as a master on 22 December 1783. Over the course of his career, he repeatedly established new firms, at times with changing business partners. In 1801, he entered into partnership with Jean Noé Lamy, forming Rémond, Lamy & Compagnie.

Jean George Remond
Jean-Georges Rémond (1752–1830) was a Hanau-born jeweller and goldsmith active in Geneva. Founder of Georges Rémond & Cie., he specialised in enamelled gold snuffboxes, watch cases and luxury objects, often destined for international and Oriental markets. His pieces combine coloured gold, enamel miniatures, jewels and refined mechanical elegance within late eighteenth-century diplomatic gift culture.
