With strongly expressionistic brushstrokes, Henri Epstein depicts a harbour scene in this painting that brings the everyday life of fishermen to life. In the foreground, a figure with a large net over his shoulder walks towards one of the boats in the middle ground of the picture. Directly at the water's edge, dressed in yellow clothing similar to a Friesennerz raincoat, another person can be seen, dedicated to the hard work on the water. Epstein's colourful treatment of the subject with expressive brushstrokes makes the coastal scene shine like a sea of colours and immediately immerses the viewer in the maritime world of the fishermen. | Ralph Gierhards Antiques & Fine
