Provenance:
from the collection of Maria Antonia Pessina de Branconi (1746 - 1793), mistress of Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand of Brunswick (1735 - 1806), since 1781 in Langenstein Castle near Halberstadt; then in the collection of August Wilhelm Rimpau (1814–1892), Langenstein Castle near Halberstadt, inventoried in 1893 by his relative, the art historian Wilhelm von Bode (1845–1929); owned by the family at Langenstein Castle until 1945; later in various museum collections in the former GDR, including Berlin, Dessau, Halberstadt, Halle, Mosigkau, Wernigerode and Zeitz; restituted after 1990.
