Biography

Fernand Cian

Fernand Cian, born Fernando Ciancianaini (c.1886/1889–1954), was an Italian-born sculptor active in Paris in the early twentieth century. Known for terracotta busts, playful putti (work of art depicted as a chubby male child) and eighteenth-century-inspired child figures, his pieces combine Salon polish with decorative charm. Signed Paris works reveal expressive modelling, costume detail, warm surfaces and a theatrical sense of childhood innocence, movement and character.
