German School Old Master

Old Master, German School refers to unidentified artists working within the German artistic tradition, generally before the nineteenth century. This attribution is used when authorship is uncertain, but style, technique, subject or provenance suggests German-speaking artistic centres. Such works often reflect regional approaches to religious painting, portraiture, landscape, still life or decorative imagery in early European art collections today.
