Description: Derbyshire/England, circa 1800
The tops are decorated with bud buds, set on a tapered base with a square base and ball feet, the sides flanked by handles cast in curved acanthus leaf shapes.
Until the early 19th century, vessels (vases, bowls, etc.) were made in England from a yellow-blue to white-blue banded solid fluorite mined in Derbyshire, which was nicknamed "Blue John" – from the French "bleu-jaune" for blue-yellow.
