Catherine was the daughter of King Frederick I of Württemberg, who married Jerome Bonaparte, the youngest brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, in 1807. She was King of the Kingdom of Westphalia ("King Lustig"), founded by Napoleon. From 1807 to 1813, she was Queen of Westphalia and resided in Kassel.
