Description: This work is part of the ‘Meditations’ series, created during the artist's final creative phase, in which the works are characterised by an extreme simplification in the expressive forms of the head motif. As the artist was forced to seek a new technique due to his progressive arthritis from 1929 onwards, the ‘Meditations’ occupy a special place in the artist's oeuvre. They impressively demonstrate that Jawlensky by no means lost his artistic and creative drive and did not lose his creativity even in difficult times.
